Meet David Rubio
Bilingual Educator | Advocate | Language Visionary
- 32+ Years as a specialized Spanish educator.
- Secretary of the Board for the Association for Bilingual Education of New Mexico (NMABE).
- State & National Mentor for Spanish Spelling Bees.
David Rubio is an educator originally from southern Chihuahua, Mexico, currently living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. His innovative method is based on personal experiences and overcoming barriers. After a childhood marked by hard work, he faced difficulties learning English due to traditional grammar-focused methods, which led to frustration and repeated failures.
His learning changed after participating in an immersion program in Edmonton, Canada, where he adopted a practical approach: practicing the language in everyday situations, fostering empathy, and using cultural elements such as songs and museums.
For him, communication and human connection are central to language learning.
With 32 years of experience, he has revolutionized the teaching of Spanish and English through immersion programs, prioritizing real-world practice over textbooks and motivating his students to overcome their fear of making mistakes.
As secretary and coordinator of the Association for Bilingual Education of New Mexico (ABE-NM), he promotes the use of Spanish and organizes state and national spelling bees. He is also the author of books on bilingual education and actively participates in forums, advocating for the importance of bilingualism to unite cultures and strengthen traditions.
